Challenge: Modify an Industry Consultation Camp for Tourism
Solution: Create a Community-led Tourism Project
During this 19-month contract, Atomic Tourism achieved significant milestones. We registered 11 entrepreneurs in a 6-month coaching program despite the challenges of Covid. Five entrepreneurs established sole proprietorships, developed websites, and continue operating. Two entrepreneurs received grants and awards.
Additionally, Atomic Tourism facilitated the Culture Camp re-design, managed a $365,000 grant, co-wrote the Cultural Camp Business Plan, and secured an additional $600,000 in funding for the organization.
Challenge: Visit Hard to Access Bone Beds on the Wapiti River
Solution: Develop an Experiential Half-Day Product
The Phillip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum expressed interest in offering a river tour to visit bonebed sites along the Wapiti River. In collaboration with museum experts, Atomic Tourism developed a 4-hour experience that enabled guests to observe the bone bed and engage in fossil prospecting.
Our involvement included defining the tour concept, overseeing the pilot of the River Prospector Experience, providing training on authentic guest engagement to museum staff, offering guidance on operations and risk management, and assisting with grant applications.
Challenge: Develop a Motorcycle Tour in Rural Alberta
Solution: Access funding for an Experience Pilot
The Canadian Motorcycle Tour Association (CMTA) sought assistance in creating a rural route in Alberta. Atomic Tourism supported the organization in obtaining funding from Travel Alberta and the Tourism Relief Fund. To accomplish this, we conducted market research, performed a competitor analysis, and developed a cost and pricing strategy specifically tailored for CMTA's needs.
Challenge: Involve Indigenous Entrepreneurs in a Culture Camp
Solution: A One-Day Cultural Sampler.
At the request of Aseniwuche Winewak Nation, Atomic Tourism provided guidance on transitioning from staff to contractors for their Culture Camp programming.
To test this new approach, we suggested conducting a one-day Cultural Sampler as an Experience Pilot. Our team created a comprehensive Pilot Plan, successfully secured and managed a $15,000 grant, coordinated the event logistics, and conducted pre- and post-experience surveys to gather valuable feedback.
Challenge: Create a Signature Experience in Grande Cache
Solution: Develop a Collaborative Experience
Local operators expressed interest in developing a tourism product that showcases the notable Sulphur Gates, Willmore Wilderness Park, and the rich Indigenous culture in the area.
Atomic Tourism successfully applied for a $15,000 grant and devised a Pilot Plan to bring this concept to life. Collaborating closely with local operators and an Indigenous Chef, we coordinated a Tourism Experience Pilot called "Waterways & Wild Foods."
Challenge: Create a unique Family River Trip
Solution: Create a River-Based Kids Theatre Experience
In response to the rafting company's desire to attract families with young children, Atomic Tourism collaborated with professional actors to create an immersive theatrical tourism experience. This unique offering featured costumed actors, engaging songs, and a well-crafted script.
Today, this experience has become a sought-after attraction in the Revelstoke summer tourism industry, drawing in numerous visitors each year.
Challenge: Build a Rural Tourism Business without a DMO
Solution: Streamline for Success
Despite operating in a secluded community with no destination marketing, Wild Blue Yonder Rafting not only thrived but also expanded into BC with a second location. The owners, Gina Goldie and Johannes Zwart, credit their remarkable 25-year success in rural tourism to their commitment to efficient operations and authentic guest engagement.
Completing programs like Travel Alberta's Canada West Scholarship, Destination BC's Designing Remarkable Experiences, and DBC's Advanced Digital Marketing, Wild Blue Yonder became Northern Alberta's only export-ready tour operator.
